WHAT IS SALVATION?

It is deliverance from the guilt, power, consequences, and love of sin.  It is the one and only provision for entrance into the kingdom of God, which puts you right with God and makes you His child.  In action it is conversion—a “turning” from sin to God.

WHY DO WE NEED IT?

Our beginning started way back when God originally created mankind perfect and eternal. He put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, gave them complete dominion—rule—over everything on this earth, and created them to live in fellowship with Him & to live forever!  He told them they could eat the fruit of every tree in the Garden; but, He also told them they would die IF they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  That knowledge would take them out of absolute perfection, innocence, goodness—and unending communion and fellowship with God—to the stark, no-turning-back understanding that there could also be an opposite to that—imperfection, guilt, evil—spiritual death and separation from God.  Their choosing to eat from that tree anyway was their intentional, on-purpose act of disobedience toward their Creator—doing what they wanted to do—which is what sin is—doing life our way.  Enter human nature.  And a massive expanse between us and God that we cannot get across.  Period.  End of subject.

We need it because we are now separated from the God who created us. That eternal communion and fellowship was severed by man’s choosing.

GOD IS perfect, good, holy, righteous, fair, truthful, loving.

MANKIND IS sinful, not good, unholy, unrighteous, unjust, deceitful, selfish.

We can only understand the problem if we first consider the ALL-HOLY GOD who made the universe.  He is totally pure, completely righteous, and unwavering in His standards of morality. Though God created mankind to have a relationship with Him, this is not possible because we fall short.  Sinful human beings could never live with an all-holy God, not even for a second, because the environment God lives in (Heaven) is totally pure. Humans could not live with God unless a solution could somehow be found to the problem of their sin.

WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?

Not by man’s own achievements or works or best efforts—and blind, ignorant, presumptuous shot-in-the-dark hope that everything will turn out all right.  The formula is not—“live right and you’ll be saved,” but “get saved and you’ll live right.”

Check below what you feel is the best basis for reaching Heaven.

1. Keeping the Ten Commandments

2. Gifts to Charity

3. Doing one’s best

4. Leading a good life

5. Good works

6. Trying to obey the Golden Rule

7. Tithing or giving to the church

8. Church membership

9. Regular church attendance

10. Prayers

11. Fasting

12. Baptism

13. Holy Communion

14. Born of Christian parents

15. Confirmation

16. Penances

17. Extreme unction

18. Something else?

If you died this minute, do you have the assurance that you would be in heaven?
Read further to find out if, according to God's Word, you're on the way to Heaven.

1--The Ten Commandments are God's absolute rules for living. No man has ever perfectly kept all of God's laws--except for God's only Son, Jesus. A person will never reach Heaven through his or her own efforts. The Bible says: “For no flesh will be justified in His sight by the works of the law, for through the law [comes] the knowledge of sin." (Romans 3:20)

2, 3, or 4--Gifts to charity, doing one's best, and leading a good life are commendable acts, but according to the Bible, they will not save anyone: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us." (Titus 3:5)

5, 6, or 7--Neither good works, trying to obey the Golden Rule, or giving to the church will get you to Heaven. God's Word says: "For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)

To accept a gift, you hold out your hand.  Faith is the hand of the soul that accepts God’s offer and makes it its own.

8, 9, 10, 11--Church membership, regular church attendance, prayers, and fasting are good in themselves, but they can never justify sinners before a holy God: “All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment.” (Isaiah 64:6)

12 or 13--Without trusting in Jesus Christ, baptism and Communion cannot help. The Bible shows clearly that these are of spiritual value only when one believes in Jesus Christ.
See Acts 8:12; 1 Corinthians 11:2, 23-32.

14--Children born into Christian homes need to be saved just like anyone else. “But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13)

15, 16, and 17--Neither Confirmation, penances, nor extreme unction are the basis for going to Heaven. God has provided only one way of salvation.

18—Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

So WHAT IS God's only way of salvation? The Bible gives a definite answer. The one and only means of spending eternity with God in heaven is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone.  Because we cannot save ourselves by good works, good character, personal effort, or merit of any kind, God sent His Son to die as a substitute for us. When the Lord Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the third day, He finished the work necessary for salvation. Now all God requires of you is to receive Christ as your Savior: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." (Acts 16:31)  The word “believe” is an action word, a  VERB—it means to trust completely in, turn everything over to, and depend upon—Jesus Christ.

So when you trust in Jesus you are saved and are destined to spend eternity in Heaven. Jesus said, “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words [who listens to My message] and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possesses now) eternal life.  And he does not come into judgment [does not incur sentence of judgment, will not come under condemnation] but he has already passed over out of death into life.” (John 5:24)

What does it take to begin a relationship with God?

Wait for lightning to strike? Get sick? Get old? Die?  Beyond the world and behind all of life, the Bible tells us, is the God who made us.  If you’re wondering who this God is and how it is possible to have a relationship with Him, you’ve come to the right place.

Come discover what you were made for….

PRAYER OF SALVATION

Dear God, I come to You in the Name of Your Son Jesus Christ.  You said in Your Word that whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).  Father, I am calling on Jesus right now.  I believe He died on the cross for my sins; that He was raised from the dead on the third day; and He is alive right now.  I know I’m a sinner and my sin deserves to be punished.  I repent of my sins and ask you to forgive me.  Jesus, I am asking You now to come into my heart and live Your life through me.  By faith I now confess Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord from this day forward, and I surrender myself totally and completely to You.  Thank you for giving me the right to be called a Child of God and for giving me Eternal Life!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
